There is still no good news to report about the future of the South Burnett Private Hospital, with the June 30 deadline for the hospital’s closure drawing closer.
South Burnett mayor Wayne Kratzmann said on Tuesday Pulse Health had refused absolutely to manage the hospital – even temporarily – after June 30.
Mayor Kratzmann said a number of potential operators had been spoken to but they had been given very little time to make a decision.
He said SBRC Economic Development Manager Phil Harding has been given the job of liaising with potential operators.
Mayor Kratzmann said he had also had a long meeting with Queensland Health Minister Cameron Dick and had spoken on several occasions to Dr Michael Cleary, the Acting Director-General of the Department of Health.
The Mayor said both men had been very helpful but the bottom line was the State Government had no interest in running a private hospital.
However, he believed “red tape” would not be an issue if an operator could be confirmed in time.
Mayor Kratzmann said there could also be an issue looming over the ownership of some items at the hospital.
“Anything that was paid for under a grant is staying. We will be fighting that battle,” he said.
