A Grade Grand Final winners ... Sharks won in an upset over Thunder

June 24, 2015

It’s been a big week for basketballers in Kingaroy with the Grand Finals for three competitions being played on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

In the A Grade final – played at the KSHS Sports Auditorium on Tuesday night – Sharks caused an upset by defeating Thunder 42-36.

Thunder have been almost unbeatable all season. And as they have have taken the Grand Final title for the past few years, were red hot favourites for another trophy.

But Sharks went out aggressively in the first quarter, and were leading by six at the half-time break. Thunder fought back in the third quarter and were almost level-pegging throughout the fourth quarter.

The intensity of this last spell was demonstrated by the number of defensive fouls awarded against both sides.

In the B Grade Grand Final, played earlier in the night, Basket Brawlers defeated Fire Balls 33-31 in another very close game that went right down to the full-time hooter.

The Women’s Grand Final was played on Wednesday night. Haley’s Comets defeated Green Machine 32-24.
