A former Kingaroy resident is lucky to have escaped injury when his double scull rowing boat and a CityCat ferry collided on the Brisbane River on Monday morning.

The 20-year-old former St Mary’s student – who has asked not to be named – was rowing with a colleague near West End about 6:15am when the incident occurred near the Guyatt Park ferry terminal.

The double scull was sliced through the middle, flinging the two young men into the river.

Fortunately, they were not injured. They were then taken on board the CityCat.

An investigation has begun into how the ferry and the scull collided.

Maritime Safety Queensland and Queensland Water Police are investigating.
