Last year Kingaroy got a brand new ambulance station, but what many people may not have noticed is that over the past 12 months the town has also attracted a lot of new ambulance personnel, too.
There are 12 staff based at the Kingaroy station – although not all are rostered on at the same time – and of these, six new faces have joined during the past year or so.
Officer-in-charge Adam Flory is one of those new faces.
He’s been an ambulance officer for 10 years but before that was a police officer in NSW.
He’s worked with the QAS Communications team, handling 000 calls, and as a clinical support officer for the Darling Downs district, based in Toowoomba.
Another newcomer is Noel Edmondstone who has been with the ambulance service for 30 years. He has transferred to Kingaroy from Brisbane for a 12-month placement but has been enjoying the place so much, he’d like to stay.
Just beginning his career is Tim Westerweel who is completing his graduate placement – basically an intern year – at Kingaroy QAS.
He has come to the station straight from the University of the Sunshine Coast where he has completed a Bachelor of Paramedical Science.
Also an USC graduate is Rob Weeks. He has now finished his internship and is full-time based in Kingaroy.
Daniel Brand is a former Murgon boy who moved away to Brisbane and then North Queensland to further his career. He thought it was about time to come back to the South Burnett and has now been at Kingaroy for about seven months.
Sara Philpott, originally from the Sunshine Coast, transferred to the Kingaroy QAS station after a stint at Murgon QAS.
These six new faces to the South Burnett are working hard to make all our lives safer, so if you see them around, don’t forget to say g’day.
Footnote: The Kingaroy QAS wants to raise awareness about the importance of CPR training. Keep an eye out for them, as they plan to start visiting local schools soon.
