The Electrical Trades Union claimed today three Ergon Energy depots in the South Burnett could still be earmarked for closure.

“We have been seeking answers from the (State) government about job security and the impact of privatisation on more than 40 regional depots and communities for more than two years after the so-called Independent Review Panel recommended closing Ergon depots with between eight and 15 workers back in December 2012,” ETU spokesman Stuart Traill said.

“As of January 29, we have received no valid written responses and no commitments from the LNP.”

Mr Traill said regional and remote communities faced “the very real prospect of losing their essential services and jobs and essentially becoming second-class citizens in this State” if power networks were sold or leased after the State election.

The union listed a number of depots which it believes have been earmarked for closure, including the depots at Murgon, Yarraman and Kilkivan.
