A 41-year-old Murgon man appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today on four charges following a six-hour stand-off in Murgon last night.
A police spokesman said officers were called to a house in Watt Street, Murgon, about 8:40pm after reports of a domestic violence incident.
When they approached a man at the residence, he allegedly produced a small black-handled knife and threatened police.
He then locked the door, saying he had a firearm.
Police officers decided not to enter the building and closed off the street until a trained police negotiator could attend the scene.
Police began talking to the man but when he fell silent they entered the house about 2:20am. It is believed the man had fallen asleep.
The spokesman said that when police tried to take him into custody, a short struggle ensued before the man was arrested.
A search of the house did not locate any firearms.
A number of children were believed to be in the house during the incident.
No one was injured.
The man has been charged with three counts of assaulting police and one charge of contravening a domestic violence order.
He was remanded in custody to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday.
