Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott today co-hosted the launch of the Friends of the ABC Parliamentary Group to support Australia’s national public broadcaster.
“Whether it’s singing along to Slim Dusty’s Lights on the Hill, humming to Beethoven’s Symphony Number 5, dancing with your children and the Bananas in Pyjamas or watching the latest news report, the ABC is for everyone and is a welcome addition in many Maranoa homes,” Mr Scott said.
“In many ways the ABC is a lifeline for the bush.
“You can turn it on from six o’clock in the morning and get accurate market reports that could be 1000km away.
“That is vital information for people in rural Australia, who in most cases are denied reasonable access to the internet and to mobile phone services and who live vast distances from their market.
“The ABC has a longstanding reputation for providing some of the most independent, credible and up-to-date news services in the industry, whether on television, online or on radio and I’m a proud supporter of the broadcaster.”
Friends of the ABC Parliamentary Group included co-chairs Craig Laundy and Melissa Parke along with Bruce Scott, Senator Nick Xenophon and Senator Scott Ludlam.
Special guests also included ABC chairman Jim Spigelman, ABC managing director Mark Scott, Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Jason Clare.
