The Burnett Highway was badly affected by flooding in the Booubyjan area during February 2013

Repairs have begun on sections of the Burnett and Bunya highways, and the Murgon-Gayndah Road, damaged in the 2013 floods.

“Roadworks will commence on the Burnett Highway between Goomeri and Gayndah, on the Bunya Highway between Murgon and Gayndah and on the Murgon-Gayndah road, between Murgon and Booubyjan,” Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

“The work performed will involve new pavement overlay, stabilisation of the road surface and associated drainage works. It is expected that these measures will be completed by late July of this year, depending on weather conditions.

“The road reconstruction is funded 75 per cent by the Federal Government and 25 per cent by the State Government under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

“The reconstruction work will restore and improve the road quality in the South Burnett region and will be a real step forward for the region after the damage from flooding in recent years. Better quality roads means safer and quicker travel for local residents and businesses.

“The Federal Government is committed to working with the Queensland State Government to repair flood damage and improve road quality in our regional areas.”

The work will be undertaken by the Queensland Department of Main Roads and Transport.
