John Coward from Pork Queensland

May 21, 2014

Australian pork producers, processors, researchers and scientists gathered on the Gold Coast today for Pan Pacific Pork Expo 2014.

The expo combines a pork industry trade show and exhibition with information sessions supported by Australian Pork Limited (APL) and Pork CRC Limited.

It is being held today and tomorrow at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

John Coward, from Pork Queensland, told ABC Rural today that Queensland producers remained hopeful despite the high cost of grain.

He said with grain prices between $80 and $100 a ton, Queensland producers were earning up to $40 less per pig than their southern counterparts.

The conference attendees will also hear from researchers about the latest trends and technologies in the industry, particularly APL and Pork CRC Limited research outcomes.

Topics covered include sow housing, biogas, human nutrition, food safety and quality assurance.
