The legal radio frequencies for wireless microphones and audio transmitters is changing on January 1.
“Increased demand for mobile broadband services has required adjustments to the spectrum and some wireless audio devices will be reallocated to different frequency ranges,” Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Mr Warren Truss said today.
“The reallocation will affect wireless audio devices that operate in the 694 to 820 MHz range. Devices that operate in this frequency range will need to be retuned to 520 to 694 MHz and 1790 to 1800 MHz by January 1, 2015.
“From January 1, 2015 it will be illegal to use devices in the 694 to 820 MHz range as they may interfere with local mobile networks.
“People purchasing new wireless devices should check that devices are compliant with the new range. While manufacturers are no longer allowed to import or manufacture non-compliant devices, there are some retailers who may still hold non-complaint stock.
“Since September 2013, non-compliant devices sold by retailers in Australia are required to come with a warning that they can not be used from January 1, 2015. However, this warning may not be provided on devices purchased from international online stores like eBay.
“Devices already operating in the new frequency ranges should be largely unaffected and some high-end devices may be able to be retuned allowing them to operate in a different frequency range.
“In some cases schools, charities and community groups may be eligible for community grants from State or Local Governments to fund replacement equipment.”
Users can check which ranges are available in the South Burnett, by using commercial online frequency finders such as Frequency Finder or Find My Frequency
