Toowoomba Regional Council will be hosting a tourism forum on May 29 to exchange ideas and suggest a way forward for the local industry.

Council’s Tourism and Events portfolio leader Cr Geoff McDonald said the forum would include invited representatives from key tourism stakeholder groups and regional towns.

“I am excited about this opportunity to hear from tourism operators within the Toowoomba region,” he said.

“Council strongly supports tourism as an economic driver and wants to hear from its stakeholders and partners about what it could be doing to further develop and promote the industry.”

Forum participants will focus on three key themes: marketing and partnerships, events and attractions, and tourism development.

Cr McDonald said Council was working with Southern Queensland Country Tourism to double visitor expenditure between 2010-2020 in line with targets set by both the Federal and State governments.

“Participants will be asked to undertake some preparation work prior to the Forum, focusing on the role of Council in developing and marketing tourism opportunities for our region,” he said.

“Feedback from the Tourism Forum will be assessed when developing Council’s Tourism Strategy.”

The forum will be held at Toowoomba’s Empire Theatre.
