A woman who drove her adult son to River Road in Kingaroy so he could take retribution after an alleged incident at the park, has been convicted of going armed in public to cause fear.

Annette Carol Walsh, her son and a child were at the River Road park on January 19 this year when they were allegedly threatened by a man wielding a golf club because they were making too much noise, Kingaroy Magistrates Court was told on Thursday.

Instead of calling police, they drove home and returned with a baseball bat. The son got out of the car and bashed on the front fence of the man’s house with the bat.

Solicitor Mark Werner, for Walsh, told Kingaroy Magistrates Court the son was the main offender in the case and he had already been dealt with by the court.

Walsh also pleaded guilty to an unrelated charge of possessing dangerous drugs after police located three cannabis seeds in a sealed bag in her car, a clipseal bag containing cannabis on her person and another clipseal bag under her bed – a total of 8g.

Magistrate Barry Barrett fined Walsh a total of $800. No conviction was recorded.

Clara Isabella Johanna Jonsson, from Kingaroy, was excused from appearing in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Jonsson faces one charge of intimidating a witness.

Defence counsel stated there “was some prospect of mediation” in the matter and noted they had requested four witness statements from police which they had not yet received.

However Police Prosecutor Pepe Gangemi requested the court set a date for committal mention “to keep the matter progressing”.

He said the charge would ultimately be heard in the District Court.

Magistrate Barrett adjourned the matter to June 12 for committal mention. Bail was continued.
