“Structural deficiences” in the internal staircase at Murgon Courthouse have forced the upstairs courtroom to be closed while engineers secure the stairs with temporary props.

Registrar & QGAP Manager Ian Clarke told southburnett.com.au the stairs were not going to collapse but after engineers detected cracks they ordered that additional propping be put in place.

The Murgon Magistrates Court callover set down for Tuesday, April 15, will now be held at Cherbourg Magistrates Court.

Mr Clarke said he expected temporary repairs to be completed within the next few days.

In the longer term, he hoped the stairs would be either fully reinforced or full rebuilt within two or three months.

UPDATE April 17: The Murgon Courthouse is now fully functional and open for business as usual. Repairs have been made to the internal staircase.
