Close The Gap
National Close The Gap Day is designed to raise awareness about the 17 year lifespan difference that exists between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians

March 18, 2014

A new plan being co-ordinated by Darling Downs South West Queensland (DDSWQ) Medicare Local aims to improve access to health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in the South Burnett and Darling Downs regions.

Community members and representatives from all areas of the health, education, employment and social housing sectors have been invited to contribute to the plan, which will guide health service planning and delivery until 2019.

The plan aims to help “close the gap” in life expectancy between indigenous and non-indigenous people.

“We’re encouraging key representatives from all groups with an interest in indigenous health to come together in Toowoomba on April 9 for the planning day,” DDSWQ Medicare Local CEO Andrew Harvey said.
