Kumbia QCWA members have had a busy time working with their community.
They are grateful for the support being received from other groups and individuals in selling tickets for the art union to help the Kingaroy General Hospital purchase a bladder scanner. We remind anyone with tickets to sell to return the butts to us as soon as possible so they are included in the draw on March 22; or unsold tickets as we may be able to sell them elsewhere.
This month members have gathered some items to donate to the family that lost their house and contents in a fire in Ellesmere.
The Branch also purchased three new uniform shirts for the children attending Kumbia School and have given $200 store credit to enable the purchase of underwear and other personal needs. We were moved by the donation of quilts from Darvanalee Designs.
We also rallied to support a bereaved family by providing lunch after the funeral.
A working bee of preparation was held in our Rooms followed by the running of a stall all day at the Kumbia School Centenary. We offered a selection of four yummy desserts which were refreshing on a hot day.
Each Saturday we continue to open the library annexed to the Memorial Hall in Kumbia. Between 9:00am and 11:00 am borrowers may access books from the extensive collection owned by the hall as well as books brought out from the Kingaroy Library as a service to the Kumbia community.
We have gained the use of an empty shed in Kumbia which will make it easier for the storage of excess chairs. Grant applications have been submitted for necessary major maintenance on our Rooms as well as renovations to comply with “access for all” regulations.
We will now focus on the planning of our 90th birthday celebrations to be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 22.
QCWA empowers and inspires women through friendship, service, education and advocacy. Kumbia Branch is a friendly, active group and welcomes visitors and potential new members.
We meet to attend to the business of the Branch at 10:00am on the 1st Tuesday of the month and at 10:00am on the 2nd Wednesday of the month for craft and friendship.
