The QWRC Wildlife Rescue handbook

December 22, 2103

Motorists who drop into Driver Reviver sites throughout Queensland over Christmas will have the opportunity of picking up a free QWRC Wildlife Rescue handbook.

This 20-page booklet sets out what a person can do to assist any sick, injured or orphaned native animal they may find.

The information is sorted species in an easy-to-read dot point format.

The booklet is designed to be kept in the glovebox where it can be quickly available when required.

As with human first aid, doing the right thing quickly and getting the animal to a vet or experienced wildlife rehabilitator increases the chance of an eventual successful release back to the wild.

The Queensland Wildlife Rehabilitation Council Inc also recommends that when people return home they place a label on the back with the contact details of their local wildlife rescue group.

QWRC is the peak body representing all wildlife rehabilitators across Queensland.

It is a not-for-profit group of volunteers.

A successful grant application to the Gambling Benefit Fund has enabled the group to print the Wildlife Rescue handbook and provide it free across the State.
