A public forum to be held in Nanango this week aims to develop an action plan “to hold local MPs to account” and draw attention to the “real hurt that is occurring in the South Burnett as a direct result of decisions made by the Brisbane-centric LNP”.

The Electrical Trades Union has joined with CFMEU Mining, the Services Union, the AMWU and APESMA to hold the forum at the Nanango RSL Club from 5:00pm on Thursday.

ETU State Organiser Jason Young said the revelation last week that Stanwell Corporation would axe its apprentice intake for 2014 was the last straw for many.

“Our members and the South Burnett community have endured more than 120 jobs being slashed from the local Tarong Power Station in less than 12 months, but when the company announced they would be abandoning future generations, the anger boiled over,” he said.

“I had members contacting me asking for a forum, they fear their town is going to die and they are urging the local community to come and have their say.”
