August 4, 2013

A public forum will be held in Nanango on Thursday to protest against recent job losses at Stanwell, Ergon and in the public sector.

The forum aims to drum up support for three campaigns being run by the union movement:

  • Not4Sale which opposes the sale of Queensland’s electricity industry to the private sector,
  • Our Qld Future which  opposes privatisation of State services such as energy, transport, health and education; and
  • Let’s Spread It Around which wants the State and Federal Governments to stop mining companies being allowed to import foreign workers and instead force them to train more apprentices to address skills shortages.

The “Save Our Town” forum has been organised by representatives from the Electrical Trades Union, the Australian Metal Workers Union and the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers.

It will be held at the Nanango RSL from 5:00pm on Thursday, August 8.
