Artist Trish Erkens from Nanango presents one of her acrylic artworks to lucky door prize-winner Catherine Woodham from Benair

July 9, 2013

A crowd of about 30 people packed into Kingaroy’s Nimue Art Gallery on Saturday afternoon to witness the opening of “For The Joy Of It All”, a new joint exhibition by Nanango artist Trish Erkens and Kingaroy watercolourist Joy Carter.

Trish – who’s won many local art awards in the last few years, including (most recently) a second prize at May’s 2013 Nanart Art Exhibition – has mostly acrylic works in the show, while friend Joy has mostly watercolours.

Trish Erkens’ works are bold and brightly coloured. They cover a wide variety of themes, with many focussing on plants and animals.

They also provide a sharp contrast to Joy’s meticulously painted, romantic renderings of flowers and plants.

But guests at the opening agreed the unusual combination of styles worked very effectively together to create a striking end result.

Gallery curator Cherry Carroll said she was very pleased to be able to bring the exhibition to the public.

She said the works were “of a very high standard” and both artists deserved to be proud of them.

“For The Joy Of It” will remain on display at the Nimue Art Gallery at 6 King Street in Kingaroy from 10:00am to 3:30pm Tuesdays to Fridays and 10:00am to 1:30pm on Saturday until the end of July. Admission to view the exhibition is free.
