Ergon Energy completed a major upgrade of the high-voltage network in Kingaroy at the weekend.
Portable generators were positioned in Youngman Street and adjoining streets to maintain the power supply to most customers while local workers – supported by crews from Toowoomba – replaced the power lines and made other improvements to the West Kingaroy feeder line.
An Ergon spokesman said the project was completed on schedule and all customers were reinstated to mains power yesterday afternoon.
However, soon afterwards, about 850 customers supplied from the feeder line had their power interrupted for half an hour after a magpie flew into the network, causing arcing that led the protection system to cut power as a safety precaution.
Crews investigated the incident, but no repairs were required before power could be safely restored.
