A mysterious egg discovered at Meandu Mine last October will finally unveil its secrets at tomorrow’s Nanango Markets.
Five months after its discovery – and thanks to the dedicated efforts of children from Nanango and Yarraman – the rare Reading Bug Egg is expected to hatch at 10:00am on Saturday, February 2.
Since October, the children have been reading to the Egg at local schools and libraries to help it mature.
Unlike normal eggs, Reading Bug Eggs need to have lots of children read to them before they can hatch.
So school-aged children in both towns have been reading to the Egg right through Spring and Summer to help this happen.
Cracks started appearing on the Egg six weeks after the reading program began, and now local experts are confident it’s ready to hatch.
So if you’d like to see the Egg break open and a Reading Bug appear, head down to the Reading Bug Tent at the Nanango Markets tomorrow morning at 10:00am to see all the action.
You can also get more information from the Nanango Library or by visiting the Reading Bug Egg website.
PS: You can make the Reading Bug feel at ease by wearing something red. This will show the Bug that you’re well-read.
