Riders from Bundaberg to Blackbutt converged on Kingaroy Showgrounds at the weekend for the annual Zone 8 Jumping Equitation Championships.
Young riders from all South Burnett pony clubs took part.
The event was originally scheduled to be held at Kilkivan Showgrounds but the venue had to be changed at the last minute because of damage caused by the Australia Day weekend floods.
Riders were judged on “jumping equitation” (ie. the rider’s ability) on Saturday, and on showjumping on Sunday.
Zone 8 secretary Anette Goodchild said it was only the second time the Zone Championships had been staged – and it was two years since the last time they had been held – but she was hopeful they would now become an annual event.
“The championships provide an opportunity for the children that they would otherwise miss out on,” she said.
Anette said numbers were down because rain had forced the cancellation of a lead-up “zone camp” which many of the competitors had been planning to attend.
