Energy Minister Mark McArdle

Regional Queenslanders have been invited to have their say on the determination of 2013-14 electricity prices at a series of workshops to be held across the State later this month.

However the nearest opportunity for South Burnett residents will be Gatton or Brisbane.

Energy Minister Mark McArdle said the Queensland Competition Authority would host workshops across regional Queensland as part of its consultation process for setting regulated retail electricity prices for 2013-14.

“These workshops will give regional Queenslanders, including residents, consumer groups, and small and large businesses, an opportunity to air their views on electricity pricing,” Mr McArdle said.

“In September the Queensland Government released terms of reference for the QCA to develop electricity tariffs for 2013-14 that better reflect the cost of delivering electricity.”

Mr McArdle said the terms of reference also required the QCA to consider appropriate transitional arrangements for the standard residential Tariff 11, obsolete tariffs such as farming and irrigation tariffs, and large business tariffs in Ergon Energy’s distribution area outside the State’s south-east.

“The public consultation period is an important part of the QCA’s process to set these new tariffs, and I encourage all Queenslanders outside the south-east with an interest in electricity prices to attend one of the workshops,” he said.

The workshops will be held in the following locations:

  • Gatton – November 19
  • Emerald – November 20
  • Bundaberg – November 23
  • Cairns – November 26
  • Mareeba – November 27
  • Townsville, Ayr – November 28
  • Mackay – November 29
  • Brisbane – December (TBC)

The Draft Determination for prices for 2013-14 will be published by February 15.
