A Community Kitchen will be launched at Blackbutt Hall from 10:00am-noon next Wednesday (September 19).
A Community Kitchen is a group of like-minded individuals who come together on a regular basis to socialise and cook affordable and nutritious meals.
The Blackbutt kitchen is a joint project of the South Burnett Regional Council’s Healthy Communities Initiative and RHealth.
Federal Government funding will support participants to buy ingredients for up to 10 sessions.
During these sessions, the participants can learn to modify recipes to make them healthier, experiment with new dishes, learn to read food labels and pick up some tips and tricks to make their grocery dollar go further.
A typical session involves the group deciding on two or three recipes they would like to cook, budgeting, making a list and shopping for the ingredients.
The group then prepares and cooks the meal and participants then get to sit down and share the meal or divide it up and take it home.
The Community Kitchen is owned and driven by the participants with the support of Council and RHealth.
