A joyride in a stolen car 15 years ago – when he was just 15 years old – has finally caught up with a local man.

The man, who cannot be named as he was a juvenile when the offence was committed, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court yesterday.

Police Prosecutor Sgt Nick Nitschke said that back in January 1997, police investigated a report that youths had fled a blue Holden Commodore which had been left in a carpark at Grovely Railway Station station in Brisbane with its motor running and all four doors open.

The man was located at the time and admitted he had been one of the occupants of the stolen vehicle.

Sgt Nitschke said he could not explain why the outstanding charge had not been picked up during the intervening years when the man appeared in court on other matters.

Magistrate John Parker convicted him but imposed no further penalty.
