South Burnett Australia Day Awards - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be presenting the region's 7th annual Australia Day Awards at a special ceremony at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy at 6:00pm this evening (presentations begin at 6:30pm). The awards provide the community with an opportunity to acknowledge and reward outstanding groups and individuals committed to improving the lifestyle experience of our region. The award categories that have been chosen give all the region's communities equal opportunity to nominate individuals and/or groups who've made special contributions to the area, and everyone is welcome to attend. Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into life at 4:00pm this afternoon with the third and final day of their bumper three-day Kings Royal Modified Production Meeting - the club's biggest single race meeting of the year. Tonight's racing will feature the finas of the Kings Royal Modified Productions with the best drivers compreting for a whopping $10,000 in prize monies, along with the finals of the Australian Grand Prix (for Proddies) and also the finals of the Ollies Towing Peanut Crown (for 4-Cylinders). Tickets for tonight are $25 for adults, $15 for students/pensioners or $65 for families of four (under 12s are free). Camping is also available in the Showgrounds for the entire weekend for $60 per site - but first in, best-dressed! (gates open at 9:00am). You can find out more on the Speedway's website.
Seafood Sunday - Bunya Mountains
If you're looking for something great to do this long weekend, Lyrics Restaurant at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains - just behind the Bunya Mountains General Store - will be holding their monthly "Seafood Sunday" from 11:00am onwards today (lunch will be served from around noon). The fully-licensed restaurant will be offering a 100% fresh seafood a-la-carte menu, serving seafoods obtained from the coast yesterday - and be warned! The serving sizes are h-u-g-e. Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will also be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas (as well as Seafood Sunday at Lyrics licensed restaurant - see entry above), and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park.
Sunday Afternoon Poker - Kingaroy
Kingaroy RSL in Markwell Street, Kingaroy will be hosting poker games this afternoon. Registration starts at 2:00pm and the first cards are dealt soon afterwards. There are $150 in prizes to be won and no fees to play. More details from the RSL on (07) 4162-1755.
Dirt, Bikes & Music - Manar Park
Today is Day 2 of Manar Park's Australia Day Long Weekend Dirt Bike Challenge, and today's featured event will be the finals of the Dirt Bike Challenge at 9:00am. But if you prefer, the Park's bike trails and 4WD tracks will be open from 6:30am to 6:30pm for practice runs or your very own heart-pounding adventure. In the adternoon, there'll be live music on the stage which will run through until late into the night. A licensed bar will open at 6:00pm and presentations for the Challenge winners will be made in the main marquee. Highlights from the day's activities will be also displayed on a big screen there, and there'll be lucky draw prizes for spectators. Hivesville Country Markets
The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These family friendly monthly markets feature a variety of stalls including fresh local farm produce, plants, crafts and lots of food. There'll also be mini auctions running throughout the morning and there's plenty of free parking in the grounds. Kilkivan Sunday Markets
The weekly Kilkivan Markets will be held in Lester Millar Park in Kilkivan from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon this morning. Ben & Alex - Kingaroy
Touring duo Ben and Alex will be performing in the Commercial Hotel's beer garden at the cornewr of Haly and Glendon Streets, Kingaroy from 12:00 noon toda. There'll also be a Foam Party at 2:00pm (boardies and bikinis welcome!) with lots of games and prizes, and the pub's kitchen will be open for both lunch and dinner. Timbertown Woodworkers Group Meeting
The Timbertown Woodworkers group will be holding their regular Sunday morning meeting at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 8:30am until around 12:00 noon today.
