Pancake Day - Kingaroy and Yarraman
Today is Shrove Tuesday (probably now better known as International Pancake Day) and it heralds the beginning of fasting in Lent. According to historians Pancake Day had is origins in medieval times when feasts of pancakes were held to use up supplies of fat, butter and eggs because these foods were forbidden during Lent. In Kingaroy, the Anglican Ladies Guild will be holding their traditional Pancake Day celebration from 9:30am onwards this morning at the church hall in Alford Street. Admission is a slim $2 and there'll be a morning tea, a lucky door prize, a raffle, pancake tossing, entertainment and a bring and buy stall, along with a special prize for the "best fridge magnet" (so bring along your favourite). Everyone is welcome! Meanwhile, Yarraman will also be holding Pancake Day celebrations at Heritage House in Millar Street between 10:00am and 1:00pm today. There'll be several different varieties of delicious pancakes on offer for juat $5, and everyone is welcome! More details from Heritage House on (07) 4163-8111.
Tuesday Social Dancing - Kingaroy
A social dance featuring Old Time and New Vogue styles will be held at the CWA Hall in Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy between 6:00pm and 9:00pm this evening. Admission is $5, which includes tea and a light supper. More details? Phone Derrick on (07) 4163-6294
Proston Over 50s Club Meeting
The Proston Over 50s Club will be holding their regular third Tuesday of the month meeting and social at the Proston Town Hall in Rodney Street from 10:00am onwards today. The $2 admission fee includes morning tea and there'll be a communal lunch at around noon (bring along a plate to share). Members take part in various games, lucky door prizes and progressive raffles, and membership is just $5 per year, with bus trips are organised throughout the year. New members are always welcome! Kingaroy Men's Shed
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be open from 9:00am to 12:00 noon and 2:00pm to 4:00pm today behind the Salvation Army's headquarters at 44 Alford Street in Kingaroy. The shed is open to all men who'd enjoy the companionship of other men while undertaking woodwork, metalwork or similar projects or who'd just enjoy a chat. More details? Danny's Diner - Kingaroy
Danny's Diner - a free community dinner - will be held at the Uniting Church Hall at the corner of Alford and Youngman streets in Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 7:00pm tonight. The dinner is an initiative of the Kingaroy District Ministry Association and is for the benefit of anyone who's hungry or otherwise doing it tough. The Nanango Indoor Bowls Association will be holding their regular weekly indoor bowls matches at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango at 7:00pm this evening (matches start at 7:30pm sharp). Nanango Scout Club Meeting
The Nanango Scout Club - which meets every Tuesday night during school terms - will be holding its regular weekly meeting at the Scout Den at 40 Henry Street, Nanango (just next to the police station) from 5:30pm to around 7:00pm tonight. The group currently has three sections in operation: Joeys (for children aged 6 to 8 years); Cubs (8-11 years); and Scouts (11-15 years). The Kingaroy Writers' Association will be holding meeting between 9:30am and 12:30pm this morning at the Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Alford and Youngman Streets in Kingaroy. Members meet on the first and third Tuesdays of each month to share their work with other members and take part in writing and word exercises. Community Meeting - Yarraman
The Yarraman Progress Association will be holding a Community Meeting at the Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street at 7:00pm this evening to put together ideas for Yarraman's Town Plan from those accepted at a community meeting a fortnight ago.
