A large grassfire at Ficks Crossing, which broke out just after noon on Saturday, was quickly brought under control by teams of local firefighters.
The grassfire burned within metres of a house and sheds on Kangaroo Yard Road and also jumped the road to burn briefly in a second paddock.
Police blocked access to Kangaroo Yard Road while fire crews were at the scene.
The property owner was full of praise for the actions of the fire crews, particularly the rural volunteers.
He said his house and cattle had escaped unscathed through their actions, although an old shed – which had collapsed in a previous storm – had been scorched and he may have lost some fencing.
A QFD spokesperson said the fire had been contained by 12:45pm but at 1:00pm, there were still six fire crews at the incident – a mix of urban and rural brigades – dampening down and mopping up.

A few kilometres away, a large fire was creating a lot of smoke on Saturday afternoon burning near Cherbourg.
The QFD spokesperson said the fire was burning in inaccessible country behind Fisher Street and Cemetery Road.
QFD drones had been deployed to help map the area of the fire, which broke out about 10:15am.
At one stage up to 10 fire crews were at the fire, but no structures were under threat.
At 1:00pm, there were still seven crews at the scene.
