A truck driver has died after his vehicle ran off the highway and hit a tree on the Burnett Highway at Boonara on Monday morning.
Emergency services were called to the incident about 10:30am.
Queensland Fire Department rescuers had to use chainsaws to remove the tree from the truck, and hydraulic cutting gear to free the driver, a 57-year-old man from NSW.
He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
A police spokesperson said the man suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
The crash also brought down powerlines.
At 3:00pm, the highway remained closed in both directions, with diversions in place.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
