An eight-month police operation targeting the supply and distribution of dangerous drugs in Chinchilla and surrounding areas has resulted in detectives seizing cocaine, methylamphetamine, cannabis and more than $100,000 in cash.
Operation Xray Discourse, led by officers from the South West District Tactical Crime Squad, focused on a local drug trafficking syndicate.
Local officers were supported by officers from Brisbane Major Organised Crime Squad and Brisbane Dog Squad and resulted in 38 offenders being charged with 496 offences.
Seven people have been charged with trafficking dangerous drugs: a 36-year-old man, a 34-year-old man, a 48-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, all from Chinchilla, a 35-year-old Harristown man and a 22-year-old Jondaryan man.
South West District Detective Inspector Andrew Trenerry said police had zero tolerance for drug dealers bringing harm to rural communities.
“On Friday and Saturday police executed 18 search warrants at properties in Chinchilla and Miles resulting in the seizing of significant quantities of dangerous drugs,” he said.
“The supply of dangerous drugs in our rural community has a profound and far‑reaching impact, not only on those directly involved but their families and friends.”
“Information given to CrimeStoppers was pivotal in the success of the operation. I urge anyone with information on illegal activities to contact CrimeStoppers on 1800-333-000.”
