A small ceremony was held at First Settlers’ Park in Benarkin last week to officially open a new piece of playground equipment for local children.

The flying fox was installed by the South Burnett Regional Council and adds to other equipment in the park.

“I would like to acknowledge the residents of Benarkin for their commitment and advocacy for this activity in the playground area,” Cr Linda Little said.

“They have waited a long time for this piece of equipment for the youth of Benarkin and Blackbutt.”

Council supplied ice blocks and drinks at the opening, which attracted a number of children eager to have a go.

After cutting the ribbon, Mayor Duff also took a ride on the flying fox … and didn’t even lose her hat!

The park upgrade was funded by Council’s Capital Works program.
