FLASHBACK: Entrants in last year’s Queensland Dexter Cattle Breed Show at the Nanango Show

March 9, 2026

The annual Dexter Breed Show will be held again this year in conjunction with the Nanango Show.

The 35th show is being organised by the Dexter Cattle Association which represents clubs throughout south-east Queensland.

“Since 1991, the annual Queensland Dexter Breed show has brought some of the country’s best beefy little milkers to south-east Queensland,” Jilly Magee, from the Darling Downs and Lockyer Dexter Cattle Group said.

“This year, more than 10 studs will compete with more than 40 animals being exhibited.”

She said members of the association would be travelling from all over Queensland and as far away as NSW to exhibit.

“You can expect to see some wonderful examples of Dexter Cattle, a heritage breed which provides high quality A2 milk and some of the best steaks around.”

Dexter cattle, known as a dual-purpose breed, come in three colours: black, red or dun, and can be horned or polled.

Originally bred in Ireland, they were first imported to Australia in the late 1800s.

Judging will start at 8:30am on Saturday, April 18, at the Nanango Showgrounds.
