Blackbutt residents directly affected by the flying fox roost near town will be invited to apply to the South Burnett Regional Council for a subsidy to help cover expenses.

The subsidy could be used for various expenses, including:

  • External cleaning of homes, businesses, caravans and motorhomes
  • Installation of air conditioning
  • Covers for swimming pools, vehicles and clotheslines

The cost will be covered by a State Government grant, announced late last year.

The SBRC was one of eight Queensland councils to receive funding under Round 8 of the Flying Fox Roost Management – Local Government Grant Program.

Gympie Regional Council also received funding.

An SBRC spokesperson said council would provide detailed application guidelines and eligibility criteria to ensure a smooth application process.

“I would like to thank the State Government and the South Burnett Regional Council for their support in providing this important funding,” local councillor Linda Little said.

“It is hoped these funds will assist residents directly affected by the nearby flying fox colony.

“I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with affected residents to ensure their concerns are heard and supported into the future.”
