An elderly man was airlifted in a critical condition after being struck by a hay bale on a Goombungee property on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to the incident about 5:45pm.

A QAS spokesperson said the man, aged in his 70s, suffered significant abdominal injuries and was airlifted in a life-threatening condition.

It is believed the man had been helping a tractor driver stack hay bales when one fell on him.

The man was airlifted to LifeFlight’s Toowoomba base before being transported by QAS paramedics by road ambulance to Toowoomba Hospital.
