The State Government has awarded a design contract for the proposed Cooranga Weir on the Boyne River in the North Burnett.
The weir will be built about 50km downstream from the Boondooma Dam, in the Boyne River and Tarong Scheme.
It will be nine metres high and 180 metres wide with a capacity of 2500ML, and will increase the reliability of existing Medium Priority water allocations in the North Burnett.
Sunwater has appointed Stantec to design the weir.
CEO Glenn Stockton said the design phase was expected to be completed early next year.
“This work will include the required engineering designs, drawings, and construction support,” Mr Stockton said.
“Work is also under way on a range of on-site investigations, planning and environmental approvals to enable construction of the weirs.”
The next stage of planning will include procurement activities, and early planning for site preparation.
Sunwater will present design options and cost estimates to the State Government later this year for a final decision on the investment.
