Murgon’s Steph Simpson, Matt McCauley, Taelyn Waldock, Rachael Steinhardt and Jan Irvine are going to be even busier than usual soon …
Steph, Matt and Taelyn were sashed on Saturday night as the 2026 Showgirl, Rural Ambassador and Junior Showgirl for the 102nd Murgon Show on March 13-14.
Murgon Show Society’s treasurer Jan Irvine was sashed as Mrs Murgon and Rachael Steinhardt as Miss Murgon.
The dinner at Murgon Bowls Club, the culmination of the judging process, was compered by Amanda Dennien.
The Murgon Show Society has high hopes for Steph and Matt, who will go on to compete at the Sub-Chamber level in a bid to represent the South Burnett at the Ekka later this year.
Steph is a real estate agent, mum and step-mum at the grand age of just 24.
She told the judges she decided to enter the competition because she was proud of the Murgon region and was a strong advocate for the agricultural community.
Matt has become a very familiar face around the South Burnett in recent years.
The Murgon-based agronomist was presented with the Bayer Rising Star Award at the 2025 Summer Grains Conference, is a board member of the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO) as well as being a keen runner, taking part in local events including the Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra Marathon.
Junior Showgirl Taelyn said she decided to enter the competition to “challenge herself to get more involved”.
“The show has always been a big part of our town, and I’d love the opportunity to represent Murgon and give back to something that brings so many people together each year.”
Showgoers should be looking forward to a big weekend, with both the rodeo and fireworks back on the Saturday night (March 14).
