Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch president Don Davey was a familiar sight on the podium at Kingaroy’s Anzac Day, Remembrance Day and Vietnam Veterans Day commemorations

Long-serving Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch president Don Davey OAM died on Thursday morning, aged 79.

Mr Davey had been president of the Sub-Branch since 2009 and also was a former president of the Wide Bay & Burnett District (2018-19).

He served in the Australian Army in Vietnam, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2).

After his military service, he worked as a prison officer in Victoria before retiring to the South Burnett.

He worked with various veterans’ groups in Queensland, including the Vietnam Veterans Association, the Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex Servicemen and Women, Legacy Queensland and co-founded the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Veterans’ Drop-In Centre.

Mr Davey was made a Life Member of the Queensland Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia in 2023.

He was also a member of the Ballogie Rural Fire Brigade, served as a JP and was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the South Burnett Regional Council in 2023.

He received the RSL Anzac of the Year Award in 2020 and was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours, acknowledging his service to veterans and their families.
