Kingaroy’s Big Peanut has made it as an official “Big Thing”, at least in the eyes of a special, limited edition Monopoly board game.
In a split vote in January, South Burnett councillors voted 5-2 to spend about $14,000 to support a proposal by licensed games manufacturer Winning Moves to add Kingaroy’s Big Peanut to a new edition of the company’s “Big Things Australia” edition of Monopoly.
In return, Council would receive 300 board games and Top Trumps card games – which will also feature the Big Peanut – which it could sell at Visitor Information Centres around the region to help to recoup the cost.
Now, just in time for Christmas, the “Big Things Australia” board game ($59.95) and Top Trumps cards ($12.95) are available at South Burnett Regional Council’s visitor information centres, libraries and customer service counters.
“Monopoly has always been a loved family game and with our Big Peanut featured it is an ideal family Christmas present for visitors to our region,” Mayor Kathy Duff said.
“This Monopoly edition can also be purchased and enjoyed by local families to proudly know that our region has one of the ‘Big Things’ that is being advertised to a much wider audience.”
