Murgon councillor Heath Sander – who was recently elected president of the Murgon Business and Development Association – has written to local businesses in a bid to address parking issues in Lamb Street.

Cr Sander said the South Burnett Regional Council had received feedback from businesses within the Murgon CBD regarding on-street parking in Lamb Street.

“Council is encouraging all business owners and associated staff within the Murgon CBD to utilise the parallel parking in the centre of the street rather than the angle parking outside businesses,” Cr Sander wrote.

“Your assistance with promoting these practices among staff will be greatly appreciated, to allow elderly residents and the general community to have greater accessibility to all businesses within the Murgon CBD.

“This helps to support local businesses and provide employment opportunities.”

Employees filling parking spots which otherwise could be used by potential customers has been an ongoing issue in other South Burnett towns.

The issue has been raised in recent years in both Kingaroy and Nanango, with residents expressing frustration at the difficulty of finding short-term parking close to shops.
