Troy Dennien hit a very valuable 49 runs for Crusaders on Day 1 of their Gympie A Grade Two-Day match against Harlequins at Murgon Sportsground last Saturday

Noticed the temperature? It’s cricket time … so the South Burnett Cricket Association’s local competition will be getting under way this Saturday!

Stage 2 and Stage 3 junior cricketers will be holding a muster at Murgon Sportsground from 8:00am to sort out teams for the 2025-26 competition as well as play some friendly games.

Round 1 games of the Senior One-Day 40-Over competition will also be played on Saturday:

  • Wondai Cricket Ground – Wondai Wolves v Murgon Diggers
  • Taabinga State School Oval – Kingaroy Services v Nanango Scorpions
  • Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy – Wooroolin Warriors v Saints

All senior games start at 12:30pm.

Gympie A Grade

The South Burnett again has two teams competing in the Gympie Cricket Association’s A Grade competition: Murgon Crusaders and Wooroolin Warriors.

Day 1 of Round 2 of the Two-Day competition was played on Saturday with Murgon Crusaders taking on Harlequins at Murgon Sportsground.

Murgon won the toss and elected to bat, declaring at 8/226 at the end of the 52nd over.

At stumps, Harlequins were 1/75 after Byron Kratzmann (1/15 off five overs) trapped Harlequin opener Daniel Shepperson out LBW.

Top-scorers for Crusaders were Troy Dennien (49), Joseph Carney (40) and Adam Kratzmann (39), with each batter hitting seven 4s.

Day 2 will be played this Saturday at Murgon Sportsground, with Harlequins trailing by 151.

In Gympie, Wooroolin Warriors were in action against Gympie Royals at Jack Ison Oval.

Wooroolin won the toss and elected to bat, declaring at 8/242 in the 59th over.

Lawson Black starred for Warriors, hitting 95 runs, including six 4s, before being bowled just short of his century.

Hayden Wieck (41) and Clinton Zemek (28) also added valuable runs.

At stumps, Royals were on the ropes after losing six wickets in just 16.5 overs (6/75).

Kieran Askin (2/16 off four overs) and Kyron Tunstall (2/19 off five overs) did the damage for Crusaders.

Day 2 will be played on Saturday in Gympie, with Royals trailing by 167 runs.

Footnote:  Gympie’s Two-Day competition began on September 20, with Warriors (10/183) and Crusaders (6/141) at the end of Day 1 in Gympie, but unfortunately Murgon had to forfeit Day 2 on September 27.

Tom Patton hit 14 runs off 17 balls for Crusaders before he was bowled
