Almost 60 Ergon Energy customers – including the nearby Kingaroy Country Motel – lost power on Sunday evening after an electricity pole was snapped by a truck.
The incident occurred at 5:09pm on Knight Street, near the Pound Street intersection and the Walter Road / Somerset Street roundabout.
Live wires fell across the footpath outside the motel construction site and dangled over Knight Street.
Police and emergency crews were quickly on site.
At 6:10pm, an Ergon Energy post on social media said crews would be working into the night to repair the damage.
“We need to replace the pole, restring wires and thoroughly test the damaged section before we can safely restore everyone’s power. Crews are on the job now – it’s a big job, and they’re doing their best to minimise the inconvenience,” the post continued.
At 8:00pm, Ergon reported that their crews had made the area safe, cleaned up the fallen wires and had restored power to affected customers through “smart switching”.
However, the power was disconnected again at 8:00am on Monday to allow repairs to continue; the Ergon Energy outage finder was predicting power to be restored at 4:30pm on Monday.
UPDATE 2:00pm: An Ergon Energy spokesperson said there were currently no customers without power; crews were on site and should have it all cleaned up by 5:00pm.
