A Brooklands man charged over the death of a jogger run down near Nanango in September 2022 has been sentenced to five years’ jail.

However, the sentence against Walter Evan McBryde will be suspended after serving two years.

McBryde pleaded guilty in the Kingaroy District Court on Tuesday to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

The court was told McBryde had been drinking at the Fitzroy Hotel in Nanango for several hours before he decided to drive home.

He allegedly told police he thought he had struck a kangaroo but did not stop to check.

Bryce Williams, 33, died after being struck by a passing vehicle on Nanango-Brooklands Road, near Oliver Road, about 6:30pm on September 6, 2022.

The Mt Coolum father-of-two had travelled to Nanango for work at the time of his death.

His body was found by the side of the road by members of the public.

McBryde had been committed to face trial over the death but changed his plea to guilty before the scheduled trial began.

Judge Nicholas Andreatidis also disqualified McBryde from driving for seven years.
