Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch president Don Davey was presented with his Order of Australia Medal during a ceremony at Government House in Brisbane last week.

Queensland Governor Jeannette Young AC PSM presented Mr Davey with his award on Thursday afternoon in front of family members and friends.

The recognition, announced in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours, acknowledges Don’s service to veterans and their families.

Don served in the Australian Army, reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2), and served in the Vietnam War.

He was also a training officer in the Australian Army Cadets.

Don and his wife retired to the South Burnett following his career as a prisons officer in Victoria.

He provided leadership at many levels in the RSL and was made a Life Member of the Queensland Branch in 2023.

Mr Davey also served in various Defence-related organisations in the South Burnett, including the Vietnam Veterans Association,  the Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex Servicemen and Women, and Legacy Queensland.

He was also involved in the establishment of the Kingaroy-Memerambi Veterans’ Drop-In Centre.

Mr Davey was  also a member of the Ballogie Rural Fire Brigade, served as a JP and was awarded Volunteer of the Year by the South Burnett Regional Council in 2023.

He received the RSL Anzac of the Year Award in 2020.
