The achievements of QAS Assistant Commissioner Peta Thompson were recognised at an awards ceremony in Brisbane on Friday.

Assistant Commissioner Thompson is responsible for the Darling Downs & South West Region, which includes QAS stations in the South Burnett.

She received the Excellence in Leadership award for empowering people through collaboration and team development.

Assistant Commissioner Thompson played a major role in establishing the SOAR network (“Supporting Others to Achieve and Rise”), a platform dedicated to empowering women within the QAS.

Her award was one of 10 presented at the annual Commissioner’s Achievement Awards.

A number of QAS staff and volunteers were presented with medals for long service, including Yarraman Local Ambulance Committee volunteer Kerry Wyvill.

The ceremony also provided a solemn occasion to honour the 36 ambulance officers listed on the QAS Roll of Honour.

Families of the fallen officers joined the service to remember those who lost their lives in the ultimate act of service.
