The Kingaroy RSL Club’s $1 million kitchen renovation was officially opened by Member for Nanango, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, on Wednesday morning.
The project was assisted by a $200,000 grant from Round 4 of the State Government’s “Queensland Remembers” funding program – the largest amount distributed in the round.
Club manager Maxine Tessmann said the club’s committee was very grateful for the assistance from the government.
She said the club had been serving the Kingaroy community since 1946 and over that time had undergone three major renovations.
The all-stainless steel kitchen was designed by the Green Design Group, specialist commercial kitchen specialists from Brisbane, but local tradespeople were used wherever possible.
Maxine said it was now the most modern food preparation area in the South Burnett, with the latest equipment, freezer and cold room.
Mrs Frecklington congratulated Maxine and the RSL Club committee for the work they do on behalf of the local community, and for helping to train hospitality students.
South Burnett Mayor Kathy Duff thanked the club for serving the community for almost 80 years, and the State Government for supporting the kitchen project.
“I’m looking forward to some wonderful meals,” she said.
Work to upgrade the kitchen began at the end of January and was completed on July 18.
During that time, meals continued to be served at the club for all but eight days … three days at the start when the temporary kitchen was being set up, and five days at the end when staff moved back into the new space.
Meals began to be prepared in the new area on August 1.
