South Burnett Regional Council’s new Animal Management Centre – the replacement for the RSPCA shelter which shut on June 30 – has opened its doors.

“I can reassure the community that we have experienced and knowledgeable staff who will ensure the successful operation of the Animal Management Centre (AMC),” Mayor Kathy Duff said.

A Council spokesperson said the centre, located in the same spot near Kingaroy Airport, was undergoing rebranding and renovations to revitalise the facility.

During the six-month trial, Council hopes to expand on the services previously offered, including free microchip days and education and safety programs about dogs and responsible pet awareness.

The AMC will be open 10:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday but will be closed on public holidays and weekends.

The spokesperson said these hours could change, depending on the needs of the community.
