The Federal Government announced on Monday that it was bringing forward half of its Financial Assistant grant allocations to local councils.
The $1.7 billion in untied financial assistance represents 50 per cent of the government’s FA grant allocations for 2025-26 and will be paid before June 30.
Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King said that by providing this financial assistance early, the Federal Government was providing certainty to councils that they could deliver on the priorities that matter most to their communities.
Regional Development, Local Government and Territories Minister Kristy McBain said the funding would ensure councils could “get on with the jobs they do best, without any unnecessary delays”.
The erratic payment of FA grants, which are distributed by the Queensland Grants Commission, has been previously blamed by the SBRC for creating uncertainty when balancing its operating Budget.
South Burnett Regional Council is due to bring down its Budget for 2025-26 on July 16.
