Two teenagers have been arrested after a stolen police vehicle was driven at speed near Murgon on Saturday afternoon.

An eyewitness on social media said a damaged police vehicle “with a bit hanging off the side” overtook their vehicle near Moffatdale, followed by other police vehicles.

A police spokesperson said that about 11:30am on Saturday, police were called to the Bjelke-Peterson Dam area following reports of a break-in at a property on Middletons Road and number of watercraft stolen.

Police used a boat belonging to a member of the public to arrest the pair, who were located in the dam.

After they got back to shore, one of the boys ran off before allegedly stealing a marked police vehicle and driving away at speed.

Officers nearby attempted to intercept the Toyota Hilux utility near Murgon.

The spokesperson said the teenager then drove the vehicle off Ashton Street, Murgon, into Barambah Creek where it became stuck in mud.

The boy fled on foot and jumped into the creek before being arrested a short time later.

Two boys, aged 16 and 15, are being interviewed by police and investigations are continuing.

The police vehicle sustained some damage.
