Access to Kingaroy Hospital was restricted at 6:15am on Wednesday

Police are hunting a 25-year-old man believed to be linked to a number of gunshots fired in Kingaroy on Wednesday morning.

Police are appealing for information regarding the man and a vehicle, a black Suzuki Swift with false number plates (551-GE9).

A police spokesperson said that just before 4:00am, a number of gunshots were fired into a property in Arthur Street.

The people inside were able to leave the property safely before police arrived.

At 6:15am, access to Kingaroy Hospital was restricted until further notice due to the incident.

At 8:45am, the hospital was still in lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Other businesses and facilities in the area, including some schools, have been advised to close as police respond to the incident.

An Education Queensland spokesperson said a “shelter in place” direction had been initiated in local schools.

St Mary’s Catholic College was in lockdown.

The man is described as about 175cm tall, of slim build, Caucasian with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is believed to be armed.

Members of the public are urged not to approach the man or his vehicle, and to call Triple Zero (000) immediately if sighted.

Investigations are continuing.

There are no further details available at this time.
