Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery will honouring the artworks of the late David Bryce with a special exhibition at the gallery during March and April.
The exhibition of paintings by Bryce, who died in 2000, is the official launch of next year’s David Bryce Rural Art Award, a major art competition held every two years at the Kingaroy Gallery.
Bryce was one of Kingaroy’s best-known and best-loved artists.
The award was born out of a retrospective of his work in 2016 in celebration of what would have been David Bryce’s 100th birthday.
The competition aims to capture the essence of contemporary rural life.
“David is celebrated for his insight and exploration of prophetic themes,” the gallery’s Fran Van Vegchel said.
“He was celebrated not just as a painter, woodcarver and ceramicist but also for his deep commitment to conservation, his faith, and his humanist values and he was an inspiration to many who met him.
“Join us as we commemorate his work and inspire future generations of artists to celebrate the beauty and spirit of rural Australia.”
Also at the Kingaroy Gallery in March will be an exhibition of paper tole by local expert, Rosemarie Matthews-Frederick
‘TOLE’D in PAPER” will be on display in the Main Gallery from March 3-28.
